FAQ

A robots.txt file tells search engine crawlers which pages or sections of your site they can or cannot access. It is placed in the root directory of your website.

Not exactly. robots.txt prevents crawling, but pages can still appear in search results if they are linked from other pages. Use the noindex meta tag to fully prevent indexing.

The asterisk (*) is a wildcard that matches all search engine crawlers. Rules under User-agent: * apply to every bot unless overridden by a more specific user-agent block.

The robots.txt file must be placed at the root of your domain, accessible at https://yourdomain.com/robots.txt.
